Exciting new steps for founder Tom Andrews and for the charity.
After a fantastic 11 years, People United’s founder, Tom Andrews, will be leaving People United in September in order to work on a freelance and consultancy basis. This is part of the planned evolution for the charity and is an exciting next chapter for both the organisation and for Tom.
This is a position that Tom has been moving towards for the last couple of years since he started to work part-time for the charity. The great news is that Tom will still be helping People United to deliver some important work that supports individuals and organisations, through our new Arts and Kindness Mentoring Programme, by running our reflective Away Days for organisations, and via general consultancy. This will be delivered on a freelance basis in his new role of ‘Founder/Associate’.
Tom said “We are in a really good place, and under the excellent leadership of Tina and the wonderful staff team of Sarah, Frances and Becky, I know People United will continue to go from strength to strength. This change will allow me to focus on my professional counselling studies as well as freelance work, particularly around facilitation and coaching. It will also help me develop a better balance within my working life!
I hope over the years that we have demonstrated that kindness can be something that is bold, meaningful and creative. It is not something to be coy or embarrassed about – it is an aim worth championing. I am deeply grateful for all the support I have received from colleagues, artists, participants, funders and supporters; it has been a team effort. Thank you.”

Chief Executive Tina Corri said, “We’re all really excited for Tom as he sets off on new adventures whilst still being connected to People United as a freelance Associate. This has been part of our thinking for some time now and means we should all benefit from having the best of both worlds! It has been the most amazing experience for us all working with Tom – he is completely unique in his unrelenting warmth and care towards everyone he meets, not to mention his endless flow of ideas, curiosity and dedication. This is a truly exciting time for People United too. The team are brilliant, our fantastic board is growing and we have formed a new group of Associates which means we are ready to deliver our next chapter”.
The creation of a charity in a small cupboard-like attic to the national organisation it is today, has been a story of dreams, ambition, hard work, connections, humour and most of all positivity. Thank you Tom!
