People United commissioned Tim Knights, along with executive producer Jared Schiller, to create two artist films capturing our 2014 commission journeys. These are artist commissions in their own right which will be shared in different settings during 2015. We asked Tim and Jared not only because of their track record of creating films which have their own unique style and beauty, but also because of their understanding and experience of working with artists. It was their view, and ours, that these films would be told through the eyes of the artists, rather than a promotional film trying to juggle a myriad of different voices.

The Artist: Tim Knights

Tim is a London-based documentary filmmaker. Since graduating from the National Film and Television School, his films 'Love Me Tender' and 'Laura' have played in festivals including Sheffield Doc:Fest, The East End Film Festival and screened at the BFI. 'Love Me Tender' was shortlisted for a Grierson Award.

Tim also enjoys working on commissions from organisations in the arts, mental health and LGBT sectors. He is also a camera operator and has worked for a range of companies including Channel 4, Tate and the Guardian.

Tim has created this artist film to capture artist Bob Karper's commission 'Treasure' and his reflections on role models and how intergenerational work is vital in helping to build a kinder, more caring society.

Tim has created this artist film to capture the 2014 commission 'Wonderstruck', created by artists Daniel Bye, Sarah Punshon and Boff Whalley. Starting from the theme of 'Wonder', the artists take us through the process of making 'Wonderstruck' and reflect on how 'wonder and 'wondering' can build connections between people and their environment.
