Memory Teas in Newington, Ramsgate
Friday 9 Oct 2015
2pm – 5pm
Newington Community Centre
Thanks to a grant from Heritage Lottery Fund, residents in Newington (past and present) are gathering stories and images of Newington and the people who have lived or who still live there.
The Memory Teas afternoon is an opportunity to share memories and stories of living in Newington.
• Did you grow up in Newington?
• Have you lived in Newington all your life?
• Do you have stories of the time you have spent in Newington?
• Do you have photographs of Newington past and present?
All are welcome to come. Tea and cake will be provided.
During the afternoon SEAS Photography will scan the photographs brought in of Newington.
Local artist Filipe Gomes will help people to tell the stories of their photos which will then be included in an oral history archive to be shared with the community.
Home Grown Heroes
There will also be puppet making, for all ages, with local puppeteer, Estelle Rosenfeld. Please bring photographs of local people, past and present who are admired by your family or the community – this could be a relative, the next door neighbour, a teacher or a shop keeper, in fact anyone you care about or who has made a good impression on you or your family. These photos will be scanned and the stories behind them saved. Estelle will then teach people how to make cut out puppets of their heroes.
All the images and memories gathered will be included in an archive for posterity so that the story of Newington can be told.
There’s no need to book for the Memory Teas, just come along to the Community Centre between 2pm and 5pm. However, if you have a photograph and a story you want to tell but can’t make it on 9 October, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll get back to you.
