Click here to read a review of Best Fest

Created by local residents and supported by arts charity People United, Best Fest has developed from The Best of Us; a project using the arts to tell positive stories about the community and to explore the best of us as human beings. Exploring themes such as courage, humanity, kindness and creativity, it’s happening at various locations around Newington on Wednesday 28 October, 12- 4pm.

Everyone – from Newington and beyond – is welcome to come along and take part, it’s all completely free.

To make sure you see everything, collect a passport which includes an arts trail map from one of the venues – Newington Community Centre, The Copse, the Green Roof Shelter or St Christopher’s Church – and follow the arts trail.

Best Fest will feature:

  • We Are Here- a photographic series consisting of celebratory portraits of Newington residents. Each person photographed has been nominated by other residents as contributing to the estate in a meaningful way and by their actions, enriching the community.
    Location: Newington Community Centre
  • The Whispering Forest- a unique sonic experience which centres around interaction, storytelling and transformation. Originally designed and installed within the OXO Tower complex, London, Filipe Gomes has reimagined the work to be installed in The Copse- a hidden secluded woodland within Newington.
    Location: The Copse
  • Imagination Lab- where children and their families can dream of what our world might look like in the future. Participants will be able to create miniature universes and make a stop frame animation film to bring their ideas to life. For more information see http://peopleunited.org.uk/commission/imagination/ Or watch the trailer below.
