The Better Places National Awards celebrates initiatives that go that extra mile, reach out to all sections of society and blaze a trail for others to follow. It rewards the projects and people that have made a tangible difference to the quality of life in cities, towns and villages.
People United have been shortlisted for this award for our We All Do Good Things project in Herne Bay, Kent in which we collected stories of kindness and love from the local community. It was about telling good news stories using arts and creativity across a whole town. Artists worked with every section of the community to uncover and celebrate positive stories working in bingo halls, schools, residential homes and hairdressing salons. The project culminated in an exhibition and giant picnic for the community.
We will find out the results at an awards ceremony in Manchester in July – wish us luck!
The awards are organised by New Start – the UK’s leading magazine about making places better.
