This week, I’m remaking The Empathy Roadshow for its performance at The Marlowe Theatre Studio, in Canterbury, on September 14th , where it will incorporate lots of thoughts and stories from local communities who we met on our community tour in July.
Looking back over footage of interviews from the tour, which was seen by groups ranging from a mother and toddler group, to an older people’s Singing for Health choir, to a group of young carers, I’m reminded of the things that people shared with me. The young ’empathy experts’ for whom empathy has been highly developed through their experience as young carers, the mother building a relationship through empathy with her nine week old daughter, and the woman who empathically played this year’s men’s final at Wimbledon, to name but a few! The only difficult thing about creating this show is… deciding what to leave out.
