Today I’m trying to re-shoot the test. Yesterday I was re-shooting the test. Indeed at 5.30 on monday morning I was re-shooting the test. It’s only six words. But oh the nuances that can occur in 6 words (let alone the lighting and the angles and the interruptions and the technical hitches). The thing that stops me despairing is the fact that the painfulness of the process mirrors the subject. Communication with others is hard. Self censoring or editing is natural.
I’m also shooting a whole new section. I feel I want to start saying more….but again I’m so conscious of what can be annoying, or counter-productive. I wonder what would happen if I handed a slot (ie speaking to the audience, from the screens) to someone else. A man? How would they communicate the same idea, would they get a different response?
So anyway I’m re-shooting and today the main reference in my head is most undoubtedly Samuel Beckett.
