We are delighted to announce the appointment of Clare Callan as People United’s new Creative Programmes Producer. Clare comes to us with an incredibly rich creative background, having worked in arts and culture for over 12 years.
Clare is currently Season Producer at Free Word, a London-based organisation and venue that explores the power and politics of word through art, writing and activism. At Free Word she has been responsible for leading on the creation of multi-arts seasons such as All the Ways We Could Grow and Finding Power in Isolation and embedding an artist-led approach within the organisation.
Prior to this she was the Director of Programme and Communications at Tamasha, where she co-led on the strategic development of the company’s creative and participatory programme, engagement and profile. One of her many successes at Tamasha was Taxi Tales, a Middlesbrough-based community theatre/TV project commissioned by Arts Council England, Battersea Arts Centre and BBC Arts. She has also worked for several other cultural organisations including Apples and Snakes and UK Green Film Festival. Clare also has a background and keen interest in research.
Clare said of her appointment:
“I feel very lucky to be joining People United at a time when the importance of kindness that is structural, bold and creative is being constantly highlighted. The organisation has uniquely deep roots and ever-expanding opportunities to co-create and foreground work that has radical kindness at its heart and I can’t wait to be part of the team making this happen.”
People United’s Chief Executive, Janice McGuinness said:
“We are all delighted to be welcoming Clare to this key creative role. She brings experience, passion and commitment to People United’s values and ambitions, combined with a sense of curiosity and desire to innovate, which will help propel us forwards at a time when the relationship between creativity and kindness is more important than ever.”
Clare is joining the team for 2 days a week from now until mid-December, at which point she will increase to 4 days a week. The whole team would like to welcome Clare- we’re very much looking forward to working with you and getting to know you better over the coming weeks and months!
