Do you have what it takes to spend 24 hours making and creating something which will improve someone else’s life? As part of our 10-year anniversary we are excited to be running our first ever fundraising event – an arts marathon which will spread acts of kindness. All money raised will go towards People United’s work in communities, using the arts to bring people together and encourage empathy, understanding and kindness.

Starting on the morning of Saturday 29 October at the Sidney Cooper Gallery, and running for a whole day and night, we will create new work which will help to spread kindness across the city of Canterbury (where People United is based).

We will be making a Zine with a difference – in just 24 hours! A host of lovely and amazing artists will be helping us to collect and celebrate stories of kindness from across the streets of Canterbury (and beyond) through photography, poetry, animation, music, collage, writing and who knows what else. Everything we gather will then be transformed into a super-special Kindness Zine– and then circulated to Canterbury residents, spreading and inspiring further acts of kindness.

If you can’t join us as a fundraiser you can still take part, the marathon will be open for free drop-in workshops on Saturday 29 October between 11am-1pm and 2-4pm. We need your help to create content for the zine alongside the brave fundraisers and artists. There will be a range of creative opportunities throughout the day including printmaking, photography, poetry, collage and more!

This is our first ever fundraising event of this kind helping us to deliver our mission to create more kind and caring societies through our projects in schools, neighbourhoods, care homes, hospitals and public spaces. We have received funding from Arts Council England’s Catalyst: Evolve fund that will match any donation – doubling the amount of kindness we can inspire! So please support us if you can by signing up to do the arts marathon with us, popping in on the day to join in for a bit, or of course if you can by sponsoring us online or via your mobile phone, just text ARTY24 £10 (or other amount) to 70070.
