Gemma joined People United in October 2019. After completing a degree in Philosophy she then spent the next several years working in Administration for a music and events venue in London, which is where she first began to understand how great an impact the arts can have on people, whether individually or as a group.

Gemma is passionate about community arts, having previously been Secretary and Treasurer of the Plumstead Make Merry Festival, which showcases the local creative talents of the people of Plumstead each year. She has also worked for the Autism Arts Festival at the University of Kent – a biennial festival of arts by and for people on the autistic spectrum – which she especially enjoyed as the subject of accessibility is of particular interest to her.

In her free time Gemma can usually be found sewing, drawing and making things (often those things are lamps) but she also appreciates a good spreadsheet.
