Janice joined People United as CEO in December 2018, having worked in arts and culture for over 30 years. She was previously an Assistant Director at Canterbury City Council where, amongst other things, she had responsibility for cultural policy, the Marlowe Theatre, the city’s museum service, festivals and external funding. During her time at CCC, Janice led the capital development of both the Marlowe and the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge and she helped attract millions of pounds of investment into the district’s arts and heritage. Before moving to Kent, Janice was Head of Film, Media and Literature at Northern Arts in Newcastle, Director of BAFTA North in Manchester and CEO of Glasgow Film and Video Workshop. Janice also co-founded the Leeds International Film Festival, which she directed for eight years. Most recently, she has worked as a freelance cultural consultant for Kent-based clients such as Creative Foundation and WhitLit.

She believes passionately in the transformative power of arts and culture, whether on a deeply personal level or on a grander scale, changing places and empowering communities.

Janice is also a Trustee of the Marlowe Theatre and on the executive board of Kent Cultural Transformation Partnership.
