Tom founded People United in 2006.

Starting in a small attic office, he grew the charity from an initial idea about arts and kindness, to become a pioneering nationally-respected organisation. He was Chief Executive until 2014 and then became Co-Director, Director of Innovation and Research, before leaving the organisation in 2017. He continues to support the charity as an Associate.

Tom now focuses on supporting others working in charities and the public sector by creating space for reflection and clarity. He is a qualified coach and counsellor, as well as an experienced facilitator and advisor. He is passionate about helping those that help others. He is a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council and British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Previously, Tom founded and was Chief Executive of Music for Change (promoting understanding between cultures through music) between 1997-2014. He left to become one of the first cohort of fellows on the prestigious Clore Leadership Programme.

Other things he has got up to include: working as strategic manager for the Royal Opera House (2006-2007), writing the first education pack on Tibet (1995-1997) and promoting artists from around the world as founder of the voluntary initiative Under One Sky (1993-1997).
